Tripureshwor, Kathmandu — The synthetic track at Dasharath Stadium played host to the largest and most competitive National Para Athletics Selection Trials in NBSA history, with more than 45 visually impaired sprinters and field athletes vying for national selection.
Competing across 100-meter, 200-meter, 400-meter sprint brackets and long jump events, athletes demonstrated extraordinary synergy with their certified volunteer sighted guide runners. In blind athletics, runners in the T11 category run tethered wrist-to-wrist with their guides, requiring mutual trust, synchronized stride cadence, and split-second auditory cues.
Podium Highlights & Personal Bests
Several long-standing national marks were rewritten during the morning sessions, with particularly strong showings from youth competitors representing Koshi, Gandaki, and Bagmati provinces. High-speed video timing and laser measurement technology were utilized to ensure all results comply strictly with International Paralympic Committee (IPC) standards.
“The partnership between a visually impaired sprinter and a guide runner is one of the purest expressions of teamwork in sports. Watching these athletes shatter barriers today proves what is possible when training and opportunity align,” stated the NBSA Technical Committee Director.
Certificates of excellence were awarded to both athletes and sighted guides, underscoring NBSA’s foundational policy of equal recognition and celebration for guide partners on every podium.
